During the 1st quarter 2020, CRMC Blood Center was able to conduct eighty-three (83) Mobile Blood Donation activities and collected 5173 blood units from different areas in Cotabato Province, BARMM and Cotabato City. But there was notable decrease in the number of MBD activities conducted and collected blood units since the lockdown happened due to COViD-19.

The CRMC- Blood Center is mandated to maintain an adequate supply of blood thru voluntary blood donation. Mobile Blood Donation (MBD) is one of the essential health programs and is exempted as mass gathering based on the issued DOH Department Memorandum No. 2020-0124- Interim Guidelines on Ensuring Blood Safety and Adequacy for COViD-19 Response. Blood cannot be substituted by any medicine in the pharmacy.

During the 1st quarter of 2020, Blood Center was able to conduct eighty-three (83) MBD activities and collected 5173 blood units. There was a significant decrease in the number of MBDs conducted as well as the blood units collected. COViD- 19 became a global pandemic and Philippines is on red alert. Lockdowns started to happen, so, many partners cancelled their scheduled MBDs out of fear of infection.

The Blood Center created a crisis management team and started to have their business continuity and recovery plan. Coordination with our city government and security forces were done to ensure the conduct of MBDs inside and outside of Cotabato City despite the situation. MBD and COViD-19 orientation and prevention advocacies were intensified and strict preventive measures and screening procedures were practiced during the activity.

Partners were quick to respond to our call to conduct MBDs because the supply is only limited. Truly, COViD-19 cannot stop our blood heroes from saving more lives.
