Cancer Prevention and Control Program (January 23 & 24, 2020)
The National Cancer Consciousness week is observed every third week of January by virtue of Proclamation No. 1348.
In 2010, cancer has been ranked the leading cause of mortality in the Philippines according to World Health Organization, in which it remained a national health priority in the country.
It is our annual campaign to help increase awareness and educate the general public about the dreaded disease.
The highlight of the program is to provide education to public teachers at LR Sebastian Elementary School regarding the importance of cancer prevention, screening and treatment.
We conducted a lay forum on public school teachers, which was participated by 53 female and 6 male teachers about cervical, breast and prostate cancer held on January 23, 2020. Self- breast examination was taught and teachers actively took part in the activity. A game was conducted for them to avail screening services such as free mammogram and abdominal ultrasound for 20 lucky participants.
The following day, a Zumba exercise was done and attended by 83 individual from different agencies such as PNP, DSWD, and CRMC Staff.
Because the number of Filipinos afflicted by cancer is growing and is at an alarming rate, there is a need to strengthen the campaign on early detection, the basic most important step to stop the progress of the disease.
