World AIDS Day 2020
The Philippine National AIDS Council (PNAC) in partnership with the Department of Health (DOH) led the observance of this year’s World AIDS Day on December 01, 2020.
This year’s theme is “Global solidarity, shared responsibility”. This theme recognizes and celebrates the contribution of partners and stakeholders to the HIV response in the country. Health workers, civil society organizations, people living with HIV, and various agencies all play a vital role in eliminating the stigma and discrimination, as well as in providing accessible testing, treatment, care and support for People Living with HIV. Despite the presence of the COVID-19 pandemic, we should all remain focused and resolute in our mandate of preventing and reducing transmission.
In line with this, the CRMC HIV/AIDS Core Team conducted activities to observe the World AIDS Day. The first activity was playing campaign videos on different designated areas (Information Area, Out Patient Department and HACT Clinic). The video campaign which promoted HIV awareness and Prevention was done since we are not allowed to conduct face to face orientation due to COVID 19 Pandemic. Our purpose was to continue rendering services to all patients/watchers to reduce stigma and Discrimination last December 1 – 4, 2020. The second activity was the 2nd anniversary celebration of the CRMC HACT Clinic and World AIDS DAY for our PLHIV patients together by HACT Members. We also had Quiz Bee on AIR Contest which was held at the Information Area on December 16, 2020. All participants were CRMC personnel. It was sponsored by CRMC and Dr. Kansi. On December 16, 2020, we had a Music video Contest as an advocacy about HIV in the midst of the global pandemic it is open to all CRMC personnel. All entries were posted and judged on the official Facebook page of Cotabato Regional and Medical Center. The video with the most number of likes and hearts was chosen as the People’s Choice Awardee. The two participants competed for 1 st place and 2 nd place and the winners received cash prizes. The winners were announced on December 16, 2020 at HACT Office.
The first place winner of the Music Video Contest was awarded to Entry No. 2. The title of the video was “TRUE Colors”. For the second place winner, it was awarded to Entry No. 1 with a title of “Free me”. For the People’s choice award, it went to Entry No. 1.
This year’s World AIDS Day was an important event to remind the public and the government that HIV has not gone away, that there is still a vital need to increase awareness, fight prejudice and improve education. The event was a great opportunity for people worldwide to unite and work together as one to spread awareness, help in the prevention of the spread of HIV, to end the stigma and discrimination, show support to people living with HIV, and commemorate those who have died from an AIDS-related illness.
