October 21, 2022, Cotabato Regional and Medical Center joins the Department of Health in the celebration of the Bone and Joint Awareness week this October 12-20, 2022. The Orthopedic Health Program conducted a Lay Forum in prevention of Osteoporosis to employees of the hospital aging 55yo and above then followed by a bone screening activity.
Third week of October every year is Bone and Joint Awareness Week in the Philippines by virtue of Proclamation No. 658. This celebration promotes awareness as well as prevention and treatment of various musculoskeletal disorders and conditions including arthritis, back pain, trauma, pediatric conditions and osteoporosis.
Osteoporosis causes the bones to become weak and brittle, increasing the risk of bone fractures, which in turn leads to increased morbidity, mortality and a reduction in quality of life. The number of Filipinos at risk of Osteoporosis is projected to reach 4 million by 2020 and 10.2 million by 2050, according to National Nutrition and Health Survey 2003 data. Almost 80% of Filipino women and 60% of men aged over 70, are at high risk of developing Osteoporosis. The bone screening helps to determine the health of the bones of an individual.
This program was officially opened by the head of Orthopedic Section, Dr. Lynn Sarah A. Agdeppa and followed by an inspirational message from our Medical Center Chief, Dr. Ishmael R. Dimaren. This is the first program of the Orthopedic Department conducted this year. The Orthopedic Health Program wants to focus on the health of the employees of the hospital for this year’s celebration of Bone and Joint Awareness. The team extends its gratitude to the management of CRMC for supporting the conduct of this activity. CRMC believes that a healthy workforce provides the best quality healthcare for everyone.
