November 24, 2022, the Department of Pediatrics of the Cotabato Regional and Medical Center joins in the celebration of the National Children’s Month this November. The department went to Barangay Poblacion VII, Cotabato City to provide FREE medical consultations for the children in the community and a Lecture on Immunization.

This activity is in partnership with the office of Member of the Parliament Senior Minister Abdulraof A. Macacao, Ministry of Health of BARMM, Project Tabang of BARMM, and the City Health Office of Cotabato City. This year’s theme is “Kalusugan, Kaisipan at Kapakanan ng Bawat Bata Ating Tutukan.” Republic Act 10661 or the National Children’s Month Act is celebrated every November and commemorates the adoption of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child on 20 November 1989. Under section 3 of the law, the CWC, National Youth Commission, and the Department of Social Welfare Development were designated as the lead agencies for the conduct of the celebration.

The month-long celebration aims to instill in the Filipino consciousness as well as sustain the promotion and protection of children’s rights. This activity led by the Department of Pediatrics is among the programs supported by our Medical Center Chief, Dr. Ishmael R. Dimaren. Many were affected during the Covid-19 pandemic. But the silent victims of the pandemic are the youth and children as there were no discussions on how the pandemic has affected them. A total of 187 children benefited from the consultations with free medicines and vitamins. Likewise, a total of 110 packs of 10 kilos of rice were distributed to the identified families in the area.

Former City Councilor Mr. Sukarno Sema, better half of Poblacion 8 Barangay Captain Hon. Baisla Diocolano Sema, extended his thanks to the CRMC management for bringing the medical team to their barangay. Dr. Bai Samira A. Singgon on the other hand, expressed its heartfelt gratitude to the barangay chief executive for the warm welcome and to its partners for making this activity a success one.
